A professional headshot is one of the most used images a person has. It appears on LinkedIn, press kits, speaker bios, and company websites. Getting it right is less about looking perfect and more about looking like yourself in a way that reads clearly at small sizes.
Wardrobe: the one rule that matters ¶
Solid colours read better than patterns at the sizes headshots are typically displayed. A fine check or stripe that looks sharp in person becomes visual noise at 200 pixels wide. Dark navy, mid-grey, and white are the most versatile choices. Avoid logos and text on clothing. If you are unsure, bring two options and we will look at them against the backdrop before the session starts.
Background choice and what it signals ¶
White backgrounds read as clean and direct. They work well for corporate profiles and press kits. Grey backgrounds add depth and work better for creative professionals. Charcoal backgrounds produce a more formal, considered look. All three are available in the studio. The choice is less about personal preference and more about where the image will appear and what the surrounding design looks like.
What happens in a 45-minute session ¶
The first ten minutes are setup and adjustment: backdrop, light position, and a few test frames to check the exposure and your comfort in front of the camera. The next 25 minutes are the working session, producing 80 to 100 frames across two or three setups. The final ten minutes are a review of the proof frames on the monitor so you can confirm the direction before leaving. You will know before you walk out whether the session produced what you needed.
Delivery and file formats ¶
Ten fully retouched images are delivered within 48 hours as high-resolution TIFF and web-optimised JPEG. The TIFF is suitable for print and large-format use. The JPEG is sized for web and social media use without further compression. If you need additional retouching beyond the standard pass, that is available at ¥2,000 per image.
Booking and preparation ¶
Headshot sessions run Tuesday through Saturday. The pre-shoot consultation takes five minutes by email: we ask about the primary use case, the background preference, and whether you want a wardrobe consultation. That information is enough to prepare the studio before you arrive. Sessions can be booked with one week's notice in most cases, and same-week availability is often possible.
